Welcome to The Reading Doctor, Manchester South
I’ve always been fascinated by the way children learn and develop. Nurturing my own children’s development and watching them gain an understanding of the world around them is what inspired me to retrain as a Primary School Teacher. I specialised in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) during my PGCE and gained an in-depth understanding of the barriers to learning that some children experience. Since then, I have undertaken training in Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, English as an additional language (EAL) and have worked with children with all these additional needs. During my teaching career to date, I have taught in both KS2 and KS1, and been a specialist English Teacher. I currently teach part-time in Year 2 at a local independent school.
I was very fortunate to receive Reading Recovery training where I saw first-hand the power of a 1:1 intervention programme in developing struggling readers’ confidence, self-belief and most importantly, an enjoyment of books! The progress the children made was clearly evident, so when the opportunity arose to become a Reading Doctor; to dedicate my time to teaching this invaluable life skill and specialise in helping all children triumph with reading, I didn’t hesitate!
I can offer 1:1 sessions that focus on maximising individual progress by using well-structured, engaging lessons that respond to the strengths and needs of your child; with plenty of praise and reward for their achievements. In addition to this, I can offer the opportunity to have a Reading Doctor Hub within the school environment to support pupils who need encouragement with their reading.
I very much look forward to meeting you and beginning your child’s journey to foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
