I am thrilled to be the Reading Doctor for South Staffordshire and Birmingham North.
I have a Bachelor of Education with a specialism in Special Educational Needs from Manchester Metropolitan University and have been teaching for 17 years in a range of educational settings including: mainstream, international and private schools, from Reception through to Year 6. My keen interest in understanding how children learn to read and why some find it difficult inspired me to complete a Level 5 Diploma in teaching learners with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties. This qualification has reinforced in me the need to make learning exciting, enjoyable and varied.
I am a passionate and dedicated teacher who strives to pave the way for independence and creativity with all my learners. I believe that children should be taught strategies that help them to ‘learn to learn’, with the aim of developing resilience, self-confidence and a skill set that provides them with the widest possible range of choices in order to succeed.
Throughout my life, I have been and continue to be a zealous reader and I believe that all children should be taught the necessary skills in order to discover and explore their own love of reading.
The implementation of The Reading Doctor’s strategies and resources means that I can help all my students become more confident in their reading abilities. I can offer 1:1 sessions, where the focus will be on maximising progress through a range of structured yet fun and engaging activities, tailored to the individual’s needs.
The Reading Doctor Hub is something I am also able to offer schools to boost confidence and attainment in struggling readers.
